How far can Casambi reach?
Casambi networks are built on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh technology. Rather than relying on a single controller, hub, or gateway, every Casambi-enabled device becomes part of the network, passing information between nearby devices. This allows control systems to extend far beyond the range of any individual wireless connection.
The communication range in radio technology may ultimately vary depending on the design of the product in which the antenna is housed and on the environment in which it operates.
In practice, this means a well-designed product from a radio point of view, with a good line of sight connection between nodes, can achieve radio coverage up to 100 feet indoors, and, in theory, up to 160 feet in the open air.
In typical applications, communication distances can reach:

Indoor
Up to 50 m (164 ft)

Outdoor
Up to 200 m (656 ft)
with clear line of sight

Long Range
Up to 274 m (900 ft) between certain devices designed specifically for extended coverage
What Determines Real-World Range?
Like any wireless technology, range depends on the environment.
Factors that may affect communication include:
- Wall construction
- Concrete or masonry structures
- Metal enclosures
- Mechanical rooms
- Stairwells
- Fixture construction
- Device mounting location
Casambi uses a mesh network technology, whereby each Casambi unit, or Casambi Ready® product, also acts as a repeater. Hence, longer ranges can be achieved by using multiple Casambi products within the network.

Frequently Asked Questions
A single network can support up to 250 nodes. A node may be a luminaire, sensor, switch, controller, or other compatible device.
No. Standard operation occurs through the Bluetooth mesh network and does not require internet connectivity.
Not for normal operation. Gateways are typically added when remote access or cloud connectivity is required.
Yes. Casambi documentation references outdoor applications with line-of-sight communication distances up to 200 meters and specific LR devices intended for expanded outdoor coverage.
